There are five total California horse racing tracks in California.
Santa Anita Park - California Racetrack 85 W. Huntington Dr. Arcadia, California 91007 - it's located just 14 miles North East of downtown Los Angeles, California. Santa Anita Park is one of the more upscale racetracks in the Southern half of California. They host several action packed races each year, including the Santa Anita Derby which includes 3/4 of a million dollar purse. The racetrack features both a standard oval shaped dirt track and a 7 furlong turf track. Santa Anita park is owned by the same corporation that owns Golden Gate Fields (see below), Magna Entertainment.
Del Mar - You will find Del Mar Racetrack at 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd, Del Mar, California 92014. Contact telephone number is 858-755-1141 The Del Mar race track is actually owned by the State of California. The track is overseen by the 22nd District Agricultural Association. The group that actually cares for the track however is made up of a corporation of California owners. Each year, several graded stakes are held at the California racetrack, one of which is the Pacific Classic Stakes, which boasts a cool million in purse money. Racing season at the Del Mar track begins every summer in July and finishes up in September. Like the Santa Anita Park racetrack above, Del Mar features both a dirt track that's oval shaped, and a 7 Furlong turf course.
Golden Gate Fields is located at 1100 East shore Highway Berkeley, California 94710. Golden Gate Fields track is located on 154 acres in Berkeley, California. As the only remaining Northern California racetrack since the closing of Bay Meadows, Golden Gate Fields seats as many as 15,000 horse racing fans. Golden Gate Fields features both a 1-mile dirt track, and the standard 7 furlong turf course. Santa Anita park and Golden Gate Fields are both owned by the same corporation, Magna Entertainment.
Los Alamitos - You'll find this track at 4961 Katella Ave. Los Alamitos, California 90720. Contact them by phone at (714) 820-2800. The Los Alamtios racetrack features a shorter than average track for a California racetrack at 5/8 of a mile. The course is famous for their quarter horse races, however, Arabian and Thoroughbred racing is also featured weekly. Even though the Los Alamitos Race Course might be most famous for their great quarter horse racing, there is a lot of Arabian and thoroughbred action that takes place here on a weekly basis. The Los Alamitos Millions is very much the Los Alamtios' claim to fame. The Los Alamitos Millions features millions of dollars in purse money throughout a series of events offered to two year olds each year. The owner of the Los Alamitos California Racetrack is Ed Allred.
Hollywood Park Racetrack - 1050 South Prairie Avenue Inglewood, California 90301-4197, by phone at 888-338-RACE (7223). Hollywood Park's California racetrack is a major travel destination boasting two racing seasons annually. The historic racetrack was first founded in 1938 by Hollywood Film maker, Jack Warner of Warner Brothers. Hollywood features a one and one eighth miles with 7 1/2 furlongs chute track with 92 feet width of stretch. From the last turn, the length of stretch is 991 feet. The tracks length of stretch from last turn is 991 feet. The track also offers a 1 mile and 165ft oval track with a diagonal 1 and a quarter mile chute. This track features 6% banking on turns. The six Furlong chute was added during the fall season, 2007.
