If you’re familiar with DraftKings Sportsbook, you know the app offers a bonus for new players. That’ll almost certainly be the case for the DK HORSE betting app.
We don’t know the details of the bonus yet, but we’ll update this page as soon as DraftKings and Churchill Downs announce it. A deposit match or bonus bets are the most likely bonus types to be available on the DK HORSE app when it launches.
DraftKings is one of the best sports betting apps on the market, so you can expect its DK HORSE bonus to be one of the top offers in the horse racing business when it goes live.
Quality of the DK HORSE App
Sports betting at DraftKings is one of the most seamless sportsbook experiences available in any legal market. It’s reasonable to assume DK HORSE mobile betting will be among the best horse racing apps available, too.
DraftKings is known for being a market leader in the sports betting and daily fantasy sports industries. The company also offers an online casino in a handful of markets. In each of those spaces, DraftKings has polished and streamlined apps. Betting is easy with DraftKings — full stop. We have no reason to believe the case will be any different with DK HORSE. Expect DraftKings to bring its top-tier level of polish and user experience to its horse race betting app.
The DK HORSE mobile app should be available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store upon launch. You’ll be able to download it as you would with any other app.
To sign up for DK HORSE, you’ll need to create an account, even if you already have a DraftKings Sportsbook or DFS account. Have some identifying information ready, including your email, phone number, address, SSN, and a government-issued photo ID. You’ll need these to prove you are: 1) who you say you are and 2) old enough to bet in your state.
Deposit and withdrawal methods should be in line with what’s already available at DraftKings’ other apps: PayPal, debit/credit card, online banking, and others.
DK HORSE Racing App: Betting Options
You can expect horse racing on the DraftKings and Churchill Downs app to be pretty simple, once you understand your options.
Horse race betting uses a pari-mutuel structure. Essentially, this means odds and payouts change based on the bets that come in before a race. So you might bet on a horse at 5:1 odds, but those odds may go down to 3:1 because of the number of people making that same wager. This is obviously different from sports betting, where the odds you get at the time of placing your bet remain the same until it’s settled (this is called fixed odds betting).
If you’re not sure how to bet on horses, DK HORSE will likely have a detailed help section with plenty of information to help beginning bettors.
The DK HORSE betting app will include all of the most popular horse racing bets. There are three primary categories for horse race bets.
These are the simplest types of bets on horse races. The three primary straight bets are:
- Win: Your horse must win the race
- Place: Your horse must place first or second
- Show: Your horse must place first, second, or third
The payout will be the biggest on a win bet. Straight bets are fun for beginners, especially if you plan on betting on the Kentucky Derby on DraftKings. Other big races, such as the Belmont Stakes and Preakness Stakes, will be available too.
If you’re familiar with sports betting parlance, vertical exotic bets in horse racing could be likened to same game parlays. You select a number of horses based on the bet type, and those horses must finish in a specific order.
- Exacta: first and second
- Trifecta: first, second, and third
- Superfecta: first, second, third, and fourth
You can also make a quinella bet in which you select two horses and they have to finish first and second but in any order.
Whenever you make a trifecta or superfecta bet, you can “box” it. When you do this, your horses can finish in the top three or four in any order.
Sports bettors might compare horizontal exotic bets to parlays. In horizontals, you guess the winners of consecutive races. Options include two races (often called a daily double), three (pick three), or four (pick four) races. You could go higher if you wish, though it obviously gets increasingly more difficult to make accurate picks.
DraftKings Horse Betting – Live Racing and Betting
To properly compete, DK HORSE will need to offer plenty of live streams and live betting options for horse races all year round, including on the biggest events like the Kentucky Derby.
In short, expect plenty of live-streaming options. It’s possible DK HORSE could even offer in-running wagers — bets you can place while a race is in progress.
DK HORSE Availability
As of this writing, DK HORSE isn’t yet available, but it should go live by May 2023 — in time for the Kentucky Derby.
The DK HORSE app could go live in up to 21 states in which horse race betting online is legal. We won’t know the exact number of states until the app is actually live, because each market will need to license DK HORSE individually. This means we could get a staggered launch, with some states allowing the app before others.
DK HORSE will launch as a separate app from its sportsbook and DFS cousins, at least at first. So you’ll need to download it separately from the DraftKings Sportsbook, DFS, or Casino apps and create a new account.
DK HORSE FAQ
Yes — when it’s live. DK HORSE hasn’t yet launched in any markets in the US, but it’s expected to do so by May 2023. It will launch in various states when it’s approved by their individual legislatures. This means there won’t be one specific launch date for DK HORSE. It’ll come to numerous states at different times.
Yes, but only in select states. In the US, states can legalize online gambling on an individual basis. Some states allow it while others don’t.
You’ll be able to get the DK HORSE app from the iOS App Store or Google Play Store. You should also be able to bet using your desktop.
DK HORSE will be separate from the other existing DraftKings apps for DFS, sports betting, and online casino.
This will depend on where you live. Many states set the minimum age for horse race betting at 18 years or older, though some set it at 21. When you sign up, you’ll be required to submit documentation proving you’re old enough to legally bet in your state.
Most likely, yes. We expect the DK HORSE app to have live betting available.
Yes. DraftKings is one of the top sportsbooks in the US, and it’s live in almost every legal sports betting market. The DK HORSE app won’t be accessible using your DK sportsbook account, though. You’ll need to create a separate account for horse race betting.
