Chumash Casino Resort Hands Out $225K Blackjack Progressive Jackpot

One lucky Southern California gambler scored a major Valentine’s Day jackpot at Chumash Casino Resort.

That gambler, whom the casino identified as Jan C., won a Bonus Spin Blackjack progressive jackpot of $225,091 just before midnight, in the waning moments of Valentine’s Day on Tuesday.

“At first my wife didn’t know what was going on,” Jan said via a press release from Chumash Casino Resort. “When I told her what had just happened, she started jumping, screaming and shaking.”

Here’s how it happened:

  • Jan was playing at a special Bonus Spin Blackjack table, and he made a side bet for a chance at the progressive jackpot.
  • He was dealt a blackjack. That activated the virtual Bonus Spin wheel.
  • He spun … and it landed on Jackpot for the $225,091 payday.

Jan, who drove to Santa Ynez from Los Angeles to gamble at Chumash Casino Resort, said he’ll use the money to pay off debts.

“I’m so happy and glad that I won the jackpot. I wasn’t expecting that,” he said. “I thanked the dealer and I’m so thankful to the casino, of course. So happy for the opportunity to win a big jackpot.”

What Is the Bonus Spin Blackjack Progressive Jackpot Side Bet?

The side bet at Chumash’s Bonus Spin Blackjack table is $5. If the gambler is dealt a blackjack (Ace and a 10 or face card), they get to spin the virtual Bonus Spin wheel. It contains 12 cash prizes — from $40 to the progressive jackpot.

Chumash Casino Resort has three progressive jackpot tables all connected to the jackpot Jan won. The last winner took home $415,666 nearly a year ago — Feb. 19, 2022. So this payout had been building for quite some time.

“Thank you to everyone at Chumash, all the staff and people there,” Jan said. “I appreciate them.”

Chumash Casino Resort is the seventh-largest of the Indian casinos in California. It offers guests 2,400 slot machines, 45 table games, a 12-table poker room, and a 115,000-square-foot casino floor. Beyond gaming, there is also a 321-room hotel, six restaurants and bars, and a 1,400-seat entertainment venue.
