Suited for horses at least 3 years old, the Pacific Classic Stakes (currently known as the TVG Pacific Classic) first began in 1991 and is run over a distance of 10 furlongs.

The race takes place in August in Del Mar, California, there is a $1 million prize pot for the winner of the left-handed, dirt track race. In 2003, Candy Ride set the fastest time record of 1:59.11, and no horse has managed more than 2 wins on the track, with Richard's Kid;s second victory in 2010 the joint-record with Skimming and Tinners Way's records. Most recently, the race was won by Collected in a time of 2 minutes.
