Bonus and Promos
Odds vs. Competition
Sports Betting Options
Fliff is bringing a unique approach to California sports betting. It allows users to play with fake digital currency for real cash prizes using the legal promotional sweepstakes model.
Fliff believes sports betting should be entertaining and fun — not an event that revolves around losses. It has created a new system for predicting sporting events that focuses on social competition. This play-for-fun philosophy includes promotional games and loyalty rewards.
The Fliff app is not your typical sportsbook, so hard-core enthusiasts of sports betting in California may need to look at major books, including BetMGM California, DraftKings California, and FanDuel California, to satisfy their needs.
But since legal real-money betting isn’t available yet in California, Fliff is a great alternative. It offers engagement for all levels of sports fans.
Of all the California sports betting apps, Fliff is the only one live right now in the state. Scroll down to learn more and to see our exclusive Fliff promo code.

How to Register for Fliff
To register, start either by clicking our promo code link on this page or by downloading the Fliff Sports Betting app and putting our promo code SHARP in when you sign up. That’s how you get your free $25 Fliff Cash.
Apple iOS users will do this at the App Store. Android users will download the free sports picks app at the Google Play Store.
To register, provide personal information including your name, email address, mailing address, phone number, and the last four digits of your Social Security number. You’ll then need to verify your email address.
Fliff users play with fake digital currency to compete against the app’s social community and, potentially, win real cash prizes. And, because it’s legal, Fliff currently has the only active of the California sportsbook bonuses out there.
Fliff Coins vs. Cash
There are two types of currency: Fliff Coins and Fliff Cash. Fliff Cash can be redeemed for real cash prizes, and Fliff Coins cannot. That’s why Fliff Coins are much easier to get. Case in point, the welcome bonus: $25 in Fliff Cash, but a whopping 250,000 Fliff Coins.
This is a different business model compared to most commercial sportsbooks. Sign-up bonuses typically come in the form of a risk-free bet or matching deposit. PointsBet California, for example, offers new users two risk-free bets up to $2,000. BetMGM California offers a $1,000 risk-free bet, and FanDuel California gives new users up to a $1,000 “No Sweat First Bet.”
But, for the promotional sweepstakes model, this welcome bonus is of good quality. In fact, it’s the only promotional sweepstakes sports betting option in the US.
So it could afford to offer a worse welcome promo, but it’s choosing to offer one we find pretty rewarding.
Let’s compare Fliff’s and DraftKings’ odds for the MLB game between the Nationals and Dodgers that occurred on July 27, 2022.
Fliff Moneyline Odds
- Nationals +240
- Dodgers -305
DraftKings Moneyline Odds
- Nationals +220
- Dodgers -260
Fliff Sportsbook offered the best odds on the Nationals at +240. This means a $100 bet would have paid out $240 if Washington beat the Dodgers. DraftKings California had the best odds on the favored Dodgers at -260. A $260 bet would have returned $100 (and your original $260 stake) if LA had won.
Sportsbooks charge a fee to handle bets. This is known as the vig or juice. Fliff’s vig for this game, based on the odds it offered, was 4.72%. (Again, this is all in fake currency.) DraftKings had a lower vig at 3.47%.
At the time of this writing, Fliff’s A-to-Z list of sports was much smaller compared to BetMGM California, DraftKings, and FanDuel.
You don’t have the ability yet to make futures bets at Fliff, either. Futures bets are available on things like the next winner of the World Series or Super Bowl at major sportsbooks.
Odds are only available for contests happening that day or, in football’s case, that week. However, Fliff provides tons of betting markets for each contest, including player props.
You’re allowed to bet socially using Fliff Coins, but it also offers cash sweepstakes games — with Fliff Cash — in states where the app is legal. Because it uses a sweepstakes model, Fliff is not technically considered a sportsbook.
The Fliff Sportsbook app works fine, as it’s easy to navigate from sport to sport and search for different leagues. There is even a section for live betting.
If you’re looking for a true sports betting app, head to BetMGM, DraftKings, Caesars Sportsbook, FanDuel, or BetRivers California. But, for Fliff being a new promotional sweepstakes platform, we were impressed with the app. It has a sleek green and blue design, and the betslip is easy to access and understand.
You can also toggle between betting with Fliff Coins and Fliff Cash, and the app clearly tells you how much profit you’ll make for whatever value you choose to wager.
If we used movie ratings to rate Fliff California, it would qualify as a “G” movie for all audiences. But, hey, some G movies are awesome. Case in point: Ratatouille.
This overall score is based on the marks it received in the previous categories. To be fair, we’re not exactly comparing apples to apples here as Fliff offers a different value proposition for consumers.
The bottom line is, in the future, seasoned sports bettors will be better served at major sportsbooks, such as BetMGM, DraftKings, and FanDuel. The Fliff app is better for sports fans seeking a social component to complement the betting action.
But, for now, while sports betting is still illegal in California, this is the only sportsbook option out there. And it’s by no means chopped liver. We had a lot of fun finding the best ways to use Fliff. You probably will too.
Is Fliff Legit?
As mentioned, Fliff doesn’t really qualify as a sportsbook because of the promotional sweepstakes model it uses for cash games. We have no reason not to believe it’s legit in the sense that it pays out winners, but this is not an app to recommend for true sports bettors — at least not when traditional sports betting becomes legal in California.
Is Fliff Legal in California?
Fliff California gives customers a legal way to bet on sports and make money.
So how in the world is this legal?
Because Fliff Sportsbook has its customers use fake digital currency that can later be redeemed for real cash prizes. However, since the actual currency itself has no real-world value — you can’t use Fliff Cash to buy groceries — it’s completely legal in California. This is the same promotional sweepstakes model that popular sites Chumba Casino, Pulsz, LuckyLand Slots, Funzpoints, and Global Poker utilize.
There are two digital currencies. Fliff Coins cannot be redeemed for real cash prizes, and you get tons more of those. Fliff Cash can be redeemed for real cash prizes.
Can You Convert Fliff Coins to Cash?
No, you cannot redeem Fliff Coins for real cash prizes.
You can, however, with Fliff Coins — the much less common fake digital currency in the Fliff app. By using our Fliff promo code, you’ll start off with 10,000 times as many Fliff Coins as Fliff Cash, if that gives you an idea of the currency distribution on the social sportsbook.
You’ll start off with $25 in Fliff Cash. Once you amass at least $50 in Fliff Cash, you’ll be able to redeem it for real cash prizes — including cash or gift cards to many of the most popular US retailers and restaurants.
Why Choose the Fliff App Over an Offshore Sportsbook?
You definitely want to stay away from offshore sportsbooks. They aren’t overseen by any regulatory body and answer only to themselves. Unregulated offshore sportsbooks often have inferior digital security systems that can put your money and personal information in jeopardy, too.
Fliff is a great option for California residents who don’t have access to legal betting yet. Learn more about the road to legal sports betting in our California sports betting voter guide.
How Do You Get Fliff Cash?
Fliff provides a number of ways to get free Fliff Cash.
The first and easiest way to get Fliff Cash is by downloading the app and signing up using our Fliff promo code for $25 in Fliff Cash.
Players are also awarded free Fliff Cash as a bonus when purchasing Fliff Coin packages, and they can win Fliff Cash by winning contest giveaways. If you’re feeling old school, you can also mail in requests for Fliff Cash, although this process takes by far the longest. Players can also win Fliff Cash by betting Fliff Cash in games on the Fliff app.
Fliff Sports Betting FAQs
Yes, Fliff, a free sports picks app, is legal and available in California. It has players use fake digital currency that they can later redeem for real cash prizes.
It doesn’t really, but that’s no slight to Fliff, which offers free betting picks. It was built with a different audience in mind. Fliff users predict games to compete socially and unlock badges and loyalty rewards, with a focus on entertainment. You can win actual cash prizes through Fliff’s sweepstakes games, but it doesn’t qualify as an actual sportsbook.
Fliff allows users to bet on contests happening that day or, in the case of the NFL and college football, that week. There are currently no futures bets, but each contest has tons of markets — including player props.
The Fliff app does have geo-locating technology that prevents players from using the app in states where it’s not legal. We downloaded Fliff in South Carolina — where it’s not legal yet — and were notified of that fact.
No. In fact, there were no futures odds available at Fliff Sportsbook as of this writing. We’ll see if that changes as Fliff becomes more popular.
