What Is Fliff?

Fliff has the opportunity to be the legal sports betting leader in California.

With real-money sports betting rejected in the 2022 election, California won’t see the legalization of sportsbooks such as DraftKings California and FanDuel California until 2025 at the earliest. And that means Fliff, a free social online sportsbook that lets you play for real cash prizes, can have the California sports betting market all to itself.

Is Fliff Legal in California?

Yes.

Fliff has all the same markers of a real-money sportsbook: a wide variety of bets and sports to bet on, live betting, parlays, a welcome bonus and ongoing promos, and much more.

But there’s a key difference: Bettors don’t have to put any money down to play, so it’s a 100% legal sports betting option in California.

Promo

Fliff users play with fake digital currency to compete against the app’s social community and, potentially, win real cash prizes. And, because it’s legal, Fliff currently has the only active of the California sportsbook bonuses out there.

How to Use Fliff

Here’s how you can get your Fliff promo:

  1. Download the Fliff app on the Apple Store (iOS) or the Google Play Store (Android).
  2. Create an account by entering your email and choose a username. Or, you can connect your Apple, Google, or Twitter accounts to Fliff for one-click registration.
  3. Enter our exclusive Fliff promo code SHARP.
  4. Make your first purchase to claim your 100% Match Up to $100 Fliff Cash + 600,000 Fliff Coins.

Fliff Coins vs. Cash

There are two types of currency: Fliff Coins and Fliff Cash. Fliff Cash can be redeemed for real cash prizes, and Fliff Coins cannot. That’s why Fliff Coins are much easier to get.

This is a different business model compared to most real-money sportsbooks.

Welcome bonuses typically come in the form of a risk-free bet or matching deposit. PointsBet California, for example, offers new users two second chance free bets up to $2,000. BetMGM California offers a $1,000 risk-free bet, and FanDuel California gives new users up to a $1,000 “No Sweat First Bet.”

But, for the promotional sweepstakes model, this welcome bonus is of good quality. In fact, it’s the only promotional sweepstakes sports picks option in the US.

So it could afford to offer a worse welcome promo, but it’s choosing to offer one we find pretty rewarding.

Odds

Sportsbooks generally offer similar odds, with slight variations between books (which is why we always recommend shopping for lines.) Sometimes books are known for consistently offering slightly better numbers for favorites or underdogs.

Fliff’s odds are in line with all of the major sportsbooks, but it doesn’t have any category where it truly excels. Let’s use some LA Rams odds, in a Jan. 1 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, as an example.

Fliff vs. DraftKings Moneyline Odds

  • Fliff: Rams +235 / Chargers -300
  • DraftKings: Rams +230 / Chargers -275

Fliff Sportsbook offered the best California betting odds on the Rams at +235. This means a $100 pick would have paid out $235 if Washington beat the Dodgers. DraftKings California had the best odds on the favored Chargers at -275. A $275 bet would have returned $100 (and your original $260 stake) if LA had won.

Sportsbooks charge a fee to handle bets (or picks in Fliff’s case). This is known as the vig or juice. Fliff’s vig for this game, based on the odds it offered, was 4.85%. (Again, this is all in fake currency.) DraftKings had a lower vig at 3.64%.

Fliff Odds Boosts

Fliff also offers odds boost promotions. Some examples from Jan. 31, 2023, include:

  • Tyler Herro to Score 1st Basket vs. Cavaliers — +850
  • Virginia Tech and Indiana MBB Both to Win — +525
  • Julius Randle and C.J. McCollum to Both Make 4+ 3s — +900
3.5
Options

At the time of this writing, Fliff’s A-to-Z list of sports was much smaller compared to BetMGM California, DraftKings, and FanDuel.

Fliff does not currently offer betting on horse racing. But it still does offer a surprisingly strong selection of sports and leagues from around the world, including 10 international soccer leagues and esports (League of Legends).

The menu of sports and leagues to bet on depends on which sports are currently in-season, but the Fliff options are particularly impressive for soccer and esports. For example, these were the options on Jan. 31, 2023:

🏀Basketball

  • Euroleague Women
  • NBA
  • NCAAM
  • NCAAW

What Types of Bets Can I Make at Fliff?

Every type you can think of, even including a form of futures bets.

Fliff doesn’t have futures bets for sports out of season, or really any traditional type of futures odds. However, is is currently offering futures odds for the Super Bowl for all remaining teams.

Fliff provides tons of markets for each contest, including props.

Here’s a quick breakdown of some of the regular options:

💰 Moneyline: Moneyline bets are often the most common in legal US real-money sportsbooks, and it’s no different with Fliff. Simply pick the team you think will win. If that team wins, you win. If that team loses, you lose. Underdogs have steeper odds, so correctly picking an underdog would lead to more winnings. But it’s harder to correctly pick an underdog.

💰 Spread: Spread bets revolve around the margin of victory. Take 49ers odds as an example, where the Niners are favored by 3.5 points against the Chargers, picking the 49ers to cover would mean they’d need to win by 4 or more points. Meanwhile, picking the Chargers to cover would mean they’d need to lose by 3 or fewer points or win.

💰 Total: Another widely popular option, total bets deal with the total points scored. So, if that 49ers-Chargers game has a predicted total of 42.5 points, a pick on the Over would require 43 or more points scored to win, and a pick on the Under would need 42 or fewer points scored to win. These picks are often called Over/Under picks.

💰 Props: Prop bets focus on specific outcomes during a game. Some examples: which team will score first, will one team score three unanswered touchdowns, will one team record a safety, etc.

💰 Live betting: Yes, a bettor can do live betting — or live picking — with Fliff. Go up to the “In Play” section at the top of the app to see your options. With live betting, odds fluctuate as the game or contest progresses. Ideally, you want a high-quality live stream for the best live betting experience.

💰 Parlay: A parlay bet is a bet that contains multiple legs. That means the payout could be significant, but it’s also much harder to win, because every single leg needs to win in order for the parlay to win. You can include legs from multiple sports and leagues.

💰 Same Game Parlay: This is exactly what it sounds like — a parlay with multiple bets from one game. It’s often referred to as an SGP, or SGPs.

💰 Futures: A Fliff futures bet is a little different from your normal bet. Instead of offering odds on teams to win the championship throughout the season, Fliff lists futures odds entering the playoffs — and then pairs those odds with odds for “Any Other Team” to win, so it still appears in a moneyline format. It has started this with the NFL Playoffs. For instance, Fliff gave Kansas City +325 odds to win the Super Bowl entering the AFC Championship Game, and it’s listed as a moneyline bet with “Any Other Team” at -450 odds to win the Super Bowl.

Purchase/Redemption

The Fliff app’s purchase and redemption process (comparable to deposit and cashout with real-money online sportsbooks) is as simple and clean as it gets in the promotional sweepstakes world.

Beyond using our promo code, winning giveaways, and mailing in, the easiest way to get Fliff Cash is to purchase Fliff Coins. For instance, a $4.99 Fliff Coins purchase gets you 5.75 Fliff Cash free, a $9.99 Fliff Coins purchase gets you 11.50 Fliff Cash free, and so on.

How to Cash Out on Fliff

Once you have accumulated 50 Fliff Cash, you’re able to redeem it for real cash prizes, including money and gift cards to popular restaurants and retailers.

The process is simple:

  • Click “Redeem Fliff Cash” in the app menu.
  • Verify your identity: If you haven’t already, you’ll need to provide your name, email, phone number, address, and date of birth.
  • Provide ID: You’ll need to scan your ID with the app.
  • Input banking details: You can then set up your Fliff Cash redemption with online bank transfer or Skrill.

One important note: You’ll need to bet all of your Fliff Cash at least once before being able to redeem it for your payout. We don’t love that caveat, and it’s the only reason Fliff didn’t get a 5 in this category.

Fliff Coin Purchase Packages

These are the current Fliff Coin purchase packages (and their FREE Fliff Cash bonuses) available.

💰 5,000 Fliff Coins for $1 + $1 Fliff Cash FREE

💰 25,000 Fliff Coins for $4.99 + $5 Fliff Cash FREE

4.5
App

As of February 2023, the Fliff app had 4.8 stars with 20,712 reviews on the Apple Store for iOS users, and it had 4.6 stars with 1,430 reviews on the Google Play Store for Android users. It only takes up 46.4 MB of space, which is nice.

The Fliff Social Sportsbook app works fine, as it’s easy to place a bet, navigate from sport to sport, and search for different leagues. There is even a section for live picks.

If you’re looking for a true sports betting app, head to BetMGM, DraftKings, Caesars Sportsbook, FanDuel, or BetRivers California. But, for Fliff being a new promotional sweepstakes platform, we were impressed with the app. It has a sleek green and blue design, and the parlay pick process is easy to access and understand.

You can also toggle between betting with Fliff Coins and Fliff Cash, and the app clearly tells you how much profit you’ll make for whatever value you choose to spend.

If we used movie ratings to rate Fliff California, it would qualify as a “G” movie for all audiences. But, hey, some G movies are awesome. Case in point: Ratatouille.

2.5
Customer Service

The customer service at Fliff isn’t extensive. It provides a contact form to send an email. (You could also just email [email protected].) The response time is reasonable, but we’re really missing the 24/7 live chat option. Fliff also doesn’t have a help center with FAQs and resource pages for certain topics.

The app’s Twitter, @Fliff, will occasionally reply to customers although it’s not common.

As of this writing, there is no Fliff customer service phone number.

Does Fliff Have a Rewards Program?

Yes.

Fliff users can accumulate experience points, or XP, by making Fliff Coin picks, completing challenges, inviting friends to join Fliff, purchasing Fliff Coin bundles, or purchasing gift cards.

Then, users can claim rewards using their XP, such as gift cards or real cash prizes. Every 1 XP is equal to $0.01 in Fliff Cash.

4.0
Overall

This overall score is based on the marks it received in the previous categories. To be fair, we’re not exactly comparing apples to apples here as Fliff offers a different value proposition for consumers.

The bottom line is, in the future, seasoned sports bettors will be better served at major sportsbooks, such as BetMGM, DraftKings, and FanDuel. The Fliff app is better for sports fans seeking a social component to complement the prediction action.

But, for now, while sports betting is still illegal in California until 2025 at the earliest, this is the only type of sportsbook option out there. And it’s by no means chopped liver. We had a lot of fun finding the best ways to use Fliff. You probably will too.

Is Fliff Legit?

Yes. Fliff has all the feel of a traditional, real-money sportsbook without actually being one.

Fliff technically doesn’t qualify as a sportsbook because of the promotional sweepstakes model it uses for cash games. But we have no reason not to believe it’s legit in the sense that it pays out winners. It boasts competitive odds, offers a decent selection of sports, leagues, and wagering options, and its app is easy to use.

For states without legal real-money sports betting, such as California, Fliff is an excellent alternative — and one where you can still make money.

Can I Use Fliff in California?

Fliff California gives customers a legal way to predict sports outcomes and make money.

So how in the world is this legal?

Because Fliff Sportsbook has its customers use fake digital currency that can later be redeemed for real cash prizes. However, since the actual currency itself has no real-world value — you can’t use Fliff Cash to buy groceries — it’s completely legal in California.

This is the same promotional sweepstakes model that popular sites Chumba Casino, Pulsz, LuckyLand Slots, Funzpoints, and Global Poker utilize.

There are two digital currencies. Fliff Coins cannot be redeemed for real cash prizes, and you get tons more of those. Fliff Cash can be redeemed for real cash prizes.

Can You Convert Fliff Coins to Cash?

No, you cannot redeem Fliff Coins for real cash prizes.

You can, however, with Fliff Cash — the much less common fake digital currency in the Fliff app. By using our Fliff promo code, you can start off up to 600,000 Fliff Coins but only up to 100 Fliff Cash, if that gives you an idea of the currency distribution on the social sportsbook.

Once you amass at least $50 in Fliff Cash, you’ll be able to redeem it for real cash prizes — including cash or gift cards to many of the most popular US retailers and restaurants.

Why Choose the Fliff App Over an Offshore Sportsbook?

You definitely want to stay away from offshore sportsbooks. They aren’t overseen by any regulatory body and answer only to themselves. Unregulated offshore sportsbooks often have inferior digital security systems that can put your money and personal information in jeopardy, too.

Fliff is a great option for California residents who don’t have access to legal betting yet.

How Do You Get Fliff Cash?

Fliff provides a number of ways to get free Fliff Cash.

The first and easiest way to get Fliff Cash is by downloading the app and signing up using our Fliff promo code for a welcome purchase bonus of up to 100 Fliff Cash.

Players are also awarded free Fliff Cash as a bonus when purchasing Fliff Coins, and they can win Fliff Cash by winning contest giveaways. If you’re feeling old school, you can also mail in requests for Fliff Cash, although this process takes by far the longest. Players can also win Fliff Cash by betting Fliff Cash in games on the Fliff app.

Fliff California FAQs

What is Fliff?

Fliff is a social sportsbook that follows the promotional sweepstakes model. That means that, even though the digital currency you bet with has no real-world value, you can redeem it for real cash prizes. That’s why Fliff is legal in California and other states where real-money sports betting is illegal.

How does Fliff work?

Bettors can use Fliff just like they would with a real-money sportsbook. If you make your predictions with Fliff Coins, that’s for fun and valuable experience points (XP). However, if you make predictions with Fliff Coins, you have a chance to accumulate enough to redeem for real cash prizes, including cash and gift cards.

But, again, Fliff is just like a real-money sportsbook. Moneyline, spread, total, prop, and some futures bets are all available with competitive odds and rewarding ongoing promotions.

Is Fliff legal in California?

Yes, although it’s not classified as betting because players aren’t wagering with real money. Fliff, a free sports picks app, is legal and available in California. It has players use fake digital currency that they can later redeem for real cash prizes.

How do I cash out on Fliff?

Once you accumulate at least $50 Fliff Cash, and you’ve wagered it all at least once, you can submit a request to redeem your Fliff Cash for real cash prizes in the Fliff app. Simply click the “Redeem Fliff Cash” option in the menu and verify your identity. Then, you’ll get your real cash prize via bank transfer or Skrill within 1-3 days.

How does Fliff compare to DraftKings or FanDuel?

Other than betting with real money versus with fake digital currency you can redeem for real cash, Fliff offers the same experience as real-money online sportsbooks like DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, and more. Fliff offers competitive odds and, although its futures odds are limited, it still boasts an impressive menu of bet types and sports and leagues to bet on.

How many sports does Fliff allow you to bet on?

Fliff allows users to make picks on contests happening that day or, in the case of the NFL and college football, that week. It offers all kinds of betting options, too, including a limited selection of futures bets.

How does geo-locating technology work on the Fliff app?

The Fliff app does have geo-locating technology that prevents players from using the app in states where it’s not legal. We downloaded Fliff in South Carolina — where it’s not legal yet — and were notified of that fact.

Who created Fliff?

Matt Ricci is the co-founder and CEO of Fliff. Previously, he was an actuary at Chubb and the head of data science at Quizr Ltd.
