Betting at California Sports Venues

California sports venues are some of the most iconic in the nation. This guide offers an overview of the best stadiums in California that could see retail sportsbooks once CA sports betting is legal in the state.

The battle for legal sports betting in California has reached its peak. A pair of initiatives that aim to bring online sports wagers to California appeared on the ballot in November. However, with both failing convincingly, we now won’t see online sportsbooks in CA until 2025 at the earliest

In the meantime, let’s check out the best sports venues in California, which could land major US sportsbooks in the coming years.

Sports Venues and Stadiums in California

It’s an understatement to say that California is a hotbed for sports. The Golden State is home to 15 professional sports teams from the Big 4 leagues and several MLS and WNBA teams. No other state in the US comes close to this number.

The Los Angeles area alone features 10 professional sports franchises, far more than any other city in the country.

The following is a closer look at major sports venues and stadiums in California, along with any possible sportsbook affiliations.

Honda Center

Address: 2695 E Katella Ave, Anaheim, CA 92806

Located in the city of Anaheim, Honda Center is a major entertainment and sports hub in Southern California. The venue is home to the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks, the 2007 Stanley Cup Champions.

In 2019, the Ducks signed a partnership extension with Yaamava’ Resort & Casino at San Manuel (formerly known as San Manuel Casino), owned by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians. As part of the deal, the casino received branding rights at the stadium and VIP perks for visitors seated in the first two rows.

Considering that both sports betting measures involved California tribes in some capacity, this partnership could be further developed and maybe even involve opening a retail sportsbook at Yaamava’ down the line.

Crypto.com Arena (Formerly Staples Center)

Address: 1111 S Figueroa St, Los Angeles, CA 90015

Crypto.com Arena is the rebranded version of the Staples Center, one of the country’s most iconic venues. Upon agreement between the Singapore cryptocurrency exchange and owner AEG, the multi-purpose arena’s name was changed in Nov. 2021. The trading site bought the naming rights for more than $700 million in one of history’s biggest naming sports deals.

The arena is located in the heart of downtown LA and hosts home games for the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers and LA Clippers, the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings, and the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks. (However, the Clippers are scheduled to move to their own arena, the Intuit Dome, in 2024.)

The Clippers and Kings have signed sponsorship deals with BetWay, a major sportsbook operator. Although the Lakers don’t have any ties with sports betting brands, owner Jeanie Buss has openly supported legal sports betting in California.

LA Coliseum

Located off California Interstate 880, RingCentral Coliseum is the home ballpark of the MLB’s Oakland Athletics, often referred to as the A’s. The stadium is owned by the City of Oakland and Alameda County and operated by AEG.

Like the Sharks, the Athletics have teamed up with Cache Creek Resort

Petco Park

Address: 100 Park Blvd, San Diego, CA 92101

In downtown San Diego, Petco Park is the stadium that houses MLB’s San Diego Padres. This ballpark is known for its beautiful landscaping, climate, and excellent sightlines. The venue has also held concerts and other sporting events for rugby, golf, and soccer.

Oracle Park

Address: 24 Willie Mays Plaza, San Francisco, CA 94107

Oracle Park is situated at the edge of downtown San Francisco, in the South of Market area. Since 2000, it has acted as the home field for the esteemed MLB franchise and three-time World Series champions, the San Francisco Giants. Occasionally, the venue hosts professional and college football games.

In March 2022, the team signed a deal with Cache Creek Casino Resort as its official gambling partner. VIP members of the casino and its employees have exclusive access to Giants games. Additionally, the casino has created table game chips with Giants logos.

SoFi Stadium

Address: 1001 Stadium Dr, Inglewood, CA 90301

Inglewood’s SoFi Stadium opened in 2020 as a brand new sports and entertainment complex. It primarily serves as the home stadium for two NFL teams, the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers. The venue hosted Super Bowl LVI in which the Rams beat the Cincinnati Bengals to win the title. SoFi stadium is scheduled to host some events for the 2028 Summer Olympics.

In December 2019, Pechanga Resort Casino, the second-largest casino in California, became the founding partner of SoFi Stadium and the official casino partner of the Rams and the Chargers.

The Rose Bowl

Home of the UCLA Bruins, the Rose Bowl in Pasadena is one of the most famous college football stadiums in America. Like the LA Coliseum, the Rose Bowl was used for the 1932 Summer Olympics. Levi’s Stadium

Address: 4900 Marie P DeBartolo Way, Santa Clara, CA 95054

Levi’s Stadium is located in Santa Clara, about 40 miles south of San Francisco. It serves as the home stadium for the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers but also hosts entertainment shows and concerts.

Where Can I Bet on Sports in California?

Currently, nowhere.

Until sports betting becomes legalized in California, residents will have to travel to neighboring states where it’s legal: Arizona, Oregon, and Nevada.

However, there is one intriguing legal option in California. Fliff Sportsbook is a sweepstakes sportsbook, meaning players bet with fake digital currency that, once you amass enough, can be redeemed for real cash prizes.
