About Pauley Pavilion

Pauley Pavilion is one of the finest collegiate sports facilities in the country and is home to multiple sports teams of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). As a matter of fact, the arena is located on the UCLA campus in the LA district of Westwood Village.

You can reach the Pauley Pavilion by taking metro lines 2, 302, and 761, which serve the UCLA campus, as well as multiple Big Blue Bus and Culver City Bus lines. If you’re arriving by car, simply type in the following address into your navigation system and follow the directions:

  • 301 Westwood Plaza, Los Angeles, CA 90095

Just make sure to arrive early enough for the game due to traffic congestion.

History and Ownership

The arena has been used by UCLA since June 1965. It was named after Edwin W. Pauley, one of the university’s regents and the arena’s principal donor.

At the time, the new arena was much needed as the original men’s gymnasium where all UCLA Bruins games were held could only accommodate a couple of thousand spectators. It’s said that one of the university’s biggest legends, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, was recruited by UCLA with the assurance that he would get to play in the shiny new arena.

The Pauley Pavilion opened in June for the 1965-66 college basketball season. The sports venue hosted many notable sporting and non-sporting events over the years, including the 1969 NCAA Regional Finals, The Grateful Dead concert in 1973, the gymnastics competition at the 1984 Summer Olympic Games, the 1987 NCAA Men’s Volleyball Championship, the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards, and more.

A major renovation took place between 2010 and 2012, costing around $136 million. The arena is owned by the Regents of the University of California.

Pauley Pavilion Capacity and Features

The original capacity of Pauley Pavilion was around 12,800, and the 2012 renovation expanded that to 13,800. The highest official attendance was recorded on March 2, 2013, when the Bruins defeated the Arizona Wildcats 74–69 in front of 13,727 fans.

Some notable features of the arena include the Pavilion Club, Championship Wall, All-American Wall, and the official team store. In front of the main entrance is the statue of legendary head coach John Wooden and right next to the arena is the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame.

Sports Betting at Pauley Pavilion

Retail sportsbooks and legal sports betting apps in California remain a pipe dream, especially after an overwhelming rejection of Propositions 26 and 27 on the Nov. 2022 ballot.

At the moment, all sports betting activities in California are deemed illegal, including betting on collegiate games. You won’t find any retail sportsbooks in California, let alone at the Pauley Pavilion — at least not until the next legislative attempt is successful.

Despite no sportsbooks on-site, catching a Bruins game is a good enough reason to visit the historic Pauley Pavilion.

Even if sports betting becomes legal in CA over the next several years, the laws regarding betting on collegiate games might be stricter than those related to professional sports. It may hinder the launching of sportsbooks at arenas specifically serving college teams, such as Pauley Pavilion.

Bets Offered at Pauley Pavilion

Currently, there are no bets offered at or near the arena. Still, if a sportsbook does open at the Pauley Pavilion in the following years, you can expect to bet on your favorite team or sport in a variety of ways, as seen in many legal sportsbooks operating in other states.

Some of the most common betting options you can explore at these venues include:
